What is an IMEI number?

The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity), the MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifier), or ESN (Electronic Serial Number) is a specific number that identifies a cell phone in the United States. Cell phone networks use this identifier to provide service to the phone. If your phone does not have an ESN, it will show as the IMEI or MEID.
